A Stepping Stone

One of the main goals of VACT is to provide Asian-Canadian actors/actresses an opportunity to act on stage. Despite the huge population of Asians living in Vancouver, the opportunity that they get as Asian actors/actresses is not enough. We wanted to know if VACT has accomplished its goal as an Asian-Canadian theatre supporting the Asian actors through interviews conducted on people who were involved in their annual Etch-Your-Sketchoff!#$%!! sketch comedy show.

The video above features Jono Lee, Ed Fong, Krishna Barrett, and Andrea Yu of the team, “Laughing Make Mind Damage.” They mention that VACT has played an important role in their careers - as Andrea terms it - a "stepping stone" on the path to becoming professional actors.

Through VACT, they are able to play leading roles on stage at a level of visibility as Asian Canadians that might not be available to them otherwise. They mention that through the sketch comedy shows and mainstage productions produced by VACT, they were able break out as actors. VACT has also became a social networking arena for the actors, giving them a chance to meet others who are involved in the Film/TV/Theatre industries.

With the support of VACT, Asian Canadians are given the opportunity to explore a full range of acting roles and are thus able to explore the field and enjoy their love of acting.
