Welcome! This website about Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre is part of a final project for ASC400 @ Simon Fraser University - Asian Canadians and Community Media, taught by Gemini Award winning filmmaker Karin Lee in the Spring 2010 semester.
Aaron Cheung, Anita Wong, Beverly Wu, and Jiwon Shin were the diligent students who, amidst their packed schedules and melodramatic lives, somehow found time to work tirelessly, fueled by ramen, sushi and bubble tea, to bring this website and the accompanying detailed hard copy portion of the project to fruition.The course website can be found at http://lee400st.blogspot.com/.
From the course description: "Students will undertake community research projects in the Greater Vancouver Regional District that they themselves will create and execute which will focus on visual life stories and documentation of community history or contemporary issues such as community activism, migration, family, aging, politics, or arts and culture. It is a chance for the students to gain experience on how to conduct research in real-life settings. Individuals and small groups will conduct research on a topic of their choice, collect and analyze data and incorporate community based media research, methodology, and digital video production or website creations into their final project."
Each student in the class had to pitch their idea for a documentary film or website. Beverly Wu and Jiwon Shin both independently pitched the idea of profiling Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre under the Arts and Culture theme. They joined forces, recruiting two other top-notch teammates, Aaron Cheung and Anita Wong, along the way.
